“Until I build the house, until then three talaqs from me to my wife”
Question
Question: Zayd married Salma, the daughter of Khalid, and a baby girl was also born to Zayd. Khalid had given his son-in-law Zayd some land to build a house on; Zayd had had the foundations dug and had also filled them with bricks. Then Khalid stopped Zayd from building the house. Zayd, becoming angry, said: “جب تک اس زمین پر میں مکان نہیں بنالوں گا تب تک میری طرف سے میری بیوی سلمی کو تین طلاق” (“Until I build a house on this land, until then three talaqs from me to my wife Salma”).
Answer
Zayd’s saying, “جب تک میں اس زمین پر مکان نہیں بنالوں گا تب تک میری طرف سے سلمی کو تین طلاق” (“Until I build a house on this land, until then three talaqs from me to Salma”), amounts to this: Zayd declares his wife unlawful to himself by three talaqs, and the prohibition is not for ever but only until the house is built.
