The Method of Purifying Impure Syrup

Question

Some syrup was kept in a house; a mouse fell into it and died, so the syrup became impure. What is the way to purify it?

Answer

If the syrup is so thin (raqiq) that, through the mouse’s death, its impure particles have mixed into it, then it has become impure. The way to purify it is to add water equal in quantity to the syrup and cook it so that the water burns off and the syrup remains; then add water in the same way again and cook it. After three times it will become pure.
