Milk Drawn by a Chamar
Question
A certain man, a Chamar (an Indian caste of leatherworkers, regarded as low), who is a farmer, has two buffaloes. His son, after washing his hands, milks into a Muslim’s vessel. And a certain Hindu, after washing his hands, takes the milk of the whole village and processes (?) it. Some Muslims and Hindus object that taking milk from the Chamar’s house is not right, while milk from the hand of the Hindu is permissible. So please explain, so that the villagers may be reassured by being shown the fatwa.
Answer
If he (the Muslim) has any non-Muslim purify his hands in front of him, they will be pure; the Muslim’s vessel is pure as well and the other’s hands are pure too, so according to the Shari‘a there is no harm in it. However, if he does not have him purify his hands, then, since Chamars are mostly soiled with impurity, the apparent is that his hands too will be impure (najis)
