Does Masturbation Break the Fast and Necessitate Ghusl?

Question

Masturbation was committed, and no semen got onto the clothes and the like. In this case, is it enough merely to wash the private parts, or is ghusl wajib? And does it break the fast or not?

Answer

If no semen (mani) came out as a result of masturbation, the fast has not been broken. If pre-seminal fluid (madhi) came out, it is enough to wash the organ and perform wudu: ghusl is not wajib, nor has the fast been broken. If semen came out, then the fast has been broken and ghusl is wajib as well.
