Audible Du'a after the Prayer

Question

(1) After the congregational fard prayer ends, should some verse be recited? And is asking du'a after the fard prayer fard or not? (2) If the verse of salawat is not recited, will the salawat «اللهم صل على محمد» (“O Allah, bless Muhammad”) not be valid?

(1, 2) There is both encouragement to make du'a and merit in it: it has been called the essence (lit. marrow) of worship, and there is also glad tidings that du'a after the prayer is accepted.
