Du'a after the Prayer and Saying Amin
Question
After finishing the fard prayer, is it correct for the imam to recite a collective du'a and have the muqtadis (followers) say amin, or not? Or is it necessary for the imam and the muqtadis to make du'a individually? Or may one pray the sunna without any du'a?
Answer
(1) Du'a after the fard prayers is accepted; making du'a at that time is established by hadith and fiqh. [But] the regular practice of making du'a aloud (jahr) and having the muqtadis say amin is not established. After a fard prayer that is also followed by a sunna prayer — such as Zuhr, Maghrib and 'Isha' — one should make a brief du'a and then occupy oneself with the sunna.
