Shabina (the Recitation of the Whole Qur’an in One Night) in Congregational Nafl and in Tarawih

Question

(1) Is it permissible or not, outside Ramadan, to form a congregation of three persons and complete one [khatm of the] Word of Allah in a single night? (2) And what of completing one [khatm of the] Word of Allah in blessed Ramadan on the Night of Decree, that is, on the five nights, by praying tahajjud in congregation — provided that more than three people take part in this congregation? (3)

Answer

(1) If all of them are eager and will listen attentively, it is permissible; if there is no eagerness and they do this to display pride, it is impermissible. (2) Nafl prayer in congregation with more than three people is makruh. (3)
