Tarawih outside the mosque because of intense heat
Question
If the courtyard of a mosque is not part of the mosque [proper], and the worshippers suffer because of the intense heat, then surely there is no harm in praying tarawih in the courtyard of the mosque in that case? And will there be any reduction in the reward in the present case?
Answer
By praying tarawih in a place that is not a mosque, the merit (fadila) of tarawih will be obtained, but the sunna kifaya (communal sunna) [of praying it] in the mosque will not be fulfilled, and the reward of twenty-seven degrees that comes with praying in the mosque will not be obtained (Kabiri, p. 384).
