Qunut al-nazila: continuously or with breaks

Question

Should qunut al-nazila be recited regularly every day in the fajr prayer when its cause — that is, war and fighting — is present continuously? Some people say that the Prophet ﷺ recited it for a month and then left it, so after every month it should be left for a few days. What should be done: recite it continuously, or make some break after every month? Kindly honour us with a reasoned answer.

Answer

It is not something independent and original; rather, its cause is the occurrence of a calamity (nazila). So when that is present, qunut al-nazila should be recited; when the cause ceases, there is no need for qunut al-nazila and it should be left. Those jurists and hadith scholars who hold it permissible did not limit it to a month or somewhat more or less.
