A leper coming to the mosque for the congregation
Question
A person is afflicted with leprosy (judham) and leucoderma (baras). Where should he stand in the congregational prayer? What is the ruling of the Shari‘a?
Answer
If fluids flow from his body by which the mosque becomes soiled and the clothes of the worshippers are spoiled, or a foul odour comes from his body by which the worshippers are caused discomfort — as sometimes happens with a patient of baras or judham — then such a person is not permitted to come to the mosque. The congregation is waived for him.
