Tahajjud in congregation

Question

What is the original nature of the tahajjud prayer in the Shari‘a? How should tahajjud be performed — in Ramadan or outside Ramadan, with an announcement or without an announcement? In any case, what is the sunna way?

Answer

The tahajjud prayer is a sunna; it should be performed with the intention of a nafl. Performing a nafl prayer in congregation is not permitted, whether in Ramadan or outside Ramadan, with an announcement or without one.
