A leper going to the mosque
Question
Zayd suffers from leprosy. He appears healthy but is under treatment. Two fingers of his left hand have become crooked. Expert doctors say [to him]: “At present there is no disorder in your blood.” In such a condition, may Zayd go to the mosque and pray there or not? Some people say that this disease is contagious, and therefore Zayd should not come to the mosque.
Answer
If the leprosy has not affected the blood, no fluid discharges from the body and there is no foul smell, then it is permissible for him to go to the mosque, pray there and join the congregation. This man should not be deprived of the mosque’s congregation merely because two of his fingers have become crooked.
