Prayer Performed on a Mistaken Assumption of Wudu (Salat Maznun)
Question
A man, considering himself to be in wudu — that is, in the certainty that his wudu had not yet been broken — performed some nafl or fard prayers, and afterwards remembered that his wudu had already been broken before the prayer. What is the ruling for him? And what is the ruling if he remembers this likewise during the prayer?
Answer
If he remembers during the prayer, he should end the prayer immediately. And whenever he remembers, making up (qada’) such nafl prayers is not necessary, while the fard will have to be prayed again.
