Naming the Wrong Prayer or Number of Rak‘as in the Intention
Question
If, when beginning the fard prayer of Zuhr, the intention (niyya) in the heart was indeed for the fard of Zuhr, but with the tongue one said “‘Asr” instead of Zuhr, or “nafl” instead of fard, or “three rak‘as” instead of four, is the prayer valid in these cases or not?
Answer
In all these cases the prayer is valid (“Radd al-Muhtar”, vol. 1, pp. 278–281).
