Repeating the prayer because the iqama was omitted

Question

On Friday the imam delivered the khutba; after the khutba they forgot to say the iqama, and the Friday prayer was performed in congregation. Then, after the salam, they remembered that the iqama had not been said, and all the people performed the fard of the Friday prayer once again. Was praying it again makruh tanzihi or makruh tahrimi?

Answer

Like the adhan, the iqama is a sunna. When a sunna that is part of the prayer itself is omitted, repeating [the prayer] does not become necessary; and when a sunna that is outside the prayer is omitted, then all the more so repeating is not necessary. Yes, a warning (wa‘id) has come regarding deliberately abandoning an emphasized sunna.
