Must the one saying the iqama stand to the right of the imam?

Is it necessary that the one saying the iqama be specifically on the right side of the imam? And if a man on the imam’s left says it, is there any defect in that?

Answer

Regarding the iqama as [necessarily] on the right side is a mistake. The left side is also correct, because the Shari‘a has not fixed any particular place for the iqama.
