Repeating the adhan because of a mistake in it
Question
(a) In the adhan, instead of the words [ar]أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ[/ar] the mu’adhdhin recited: [ar]أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدُ الرَّسُولُ اللَّهِ[/ar] Does the adhan become fasid (invalid) by this or not? (b) Should such an adhan be repeated or not? (c) Will the mu’adhdhin be sinful for such an incorrect adhan or not, given that he does not understand the meaning and recites it wrongly merely out of unawareness and ignorance? (d)
Answer
Reciting it this way in the adhan is impermissible and wrong. The mu’adhdhin should correct [his pronunciation of] the words of the adhan. If he recites it this way deliberately, he is sinful. If he is unable to pronounce the words of the adhan correctly, he should refrain from calling the adhan.
