How to pronounce “Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar” in the adhan
Question
While giving the adhan, [the mu’adhdhin] says “Allahu akbaru-llahu akbar” (اللهُ أَكْبَرُ اللهُ أَكْبَر), that is, he puts a damma on the first ra’ and, joining it to the lam, gives the adhan this way. Is this permissible or not?
Answer
The best is to read it like this: “Allahu akbar. Allahu akbar” (اللهُ أَكْبَرْ اللهُ أَكْبَرْ), that is, to make the ra’ sakin (vowelless) in both places and not pronounce any vowel on it. If he does pronounce a vowel on the first ra’, let him read it with a fatha. Reading it with a damma — “Allahu akbaru-llahu akbar” (اللهُ أَكْبَرُ اللهُ أَكْبَر)
