Separating and joining the phrases of the adhan

Question

Among us a sharp disagreement has arisen concerning an adhan that was heard. Namely, a person giving the adhan did not say the phrase “Allahu akbar” twice in one breath, but said each phrase separately, four times. Thereupon some said that his adhan is not valid, while others said that it is valid, and a fierce quarrel arose over it. In reality, was this adhan valid or not?

Answer

At the beginning of the adhan, when the mu’adhdhin says “Allahu akbar” four times, he should not say it with four separate calls, but with two calls, that is, he should say “Allahu akbar” twice in one call; so it is in al-Tahtawi.
