Silence about the Prohibition by Fosterage at the Time of Nikah and Its Disclosure Later
Question
Siraj al-Din son of Dilbar Khan was married fourteen years ago to Shah Begam, daughter of Kala Khan, the village headman of Kodara. After twelve years had passed, the said man contracted a second marriage with Husn Jan, daughter of Kala Khan. He has three daughters from the first wife, and his father-in-law had taken eleven thousand from the said man as a goodly loan (qard hasan).
Answer
If the matter is as stated, then the issue of suckling (the prohibition by fosterage) is now entirely out of place. Those who give their daughter in marriage — why did they keep silent at the time of the nikah, and why did they conclude the nikah? If there was a prohibition by fosterage, why did they not say so then?
