May One Marry the Daughter of a Milk Brother?
Question
Zayd drank the milk of his own maternal grandmother within the age of two years. Is his nikah with the daughter of his own maternal uncle valid and correct? And if the nikah has taken place and children have also been born, should he now separate and part from his wife or not? And what is the ruling concerning these children — are they legitimate or illegitimate?
Answer
In the case asked about, Zayd and his maternal uncle became milk brothers, and the uncle’s daughter became Zayd’s milk niece (brother’s daughter); therefore nikah between the two of them is impermissible. If the nikah has already taken place, separation (mufaraqa) and mutaraka are obligatory.
