Hijab from the Wife’s Sister and the Ruling on Marrying Her
Question
Should hijab be observed with the wife’s sister or not, and is there any fixed limit or not?
Answer
Yes, hijab should be observed: she is a non-mahram (ajnabiyya). Upon divorcing (talaq) her sister and the completion of the ‘idda, or upon her sister’s death, nikah with her is valid. Seclusion (khalwa) with her is also forbidden; laughter, jesting and appearing before him without hijab are also forbidden.
