The Ruling on a Milk Niece (Brother’s Daughter)

Question

My mother breastfed my father-in-law in his infancy; therefore my father-in-law became my milk brother, and the girl with whom my marriage contract (‘aqd) took place became my niece (brother’s daughter). The matter to be asked is: is my nikah with this girl valid or not? If it is not valid, then what should now be done?

Answer

If, during the suckling period (ayyam al-rada‘a), milk goes down inside the throat, the milk relationship is established; whether the milk is little or much, once or more — the ruling is the same in every case.
