Marriage of a Widow to an Imam

Question

Hinda and her children had become Muslim, and the eldest of the daughters had been married to a Muslim. Now that girl has been widowed. Can this widow, after the ‘idda, be married to the imam or not? People are doubting about this: will the prayer not be valid?

Answer

Allah Most High said: [ar]وَأُحِلَّ لَكُم مَّا وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكُمْ[/ar] “And lawful to you are those beyond these” (Surah al-Nisa’, 4:24). Since that girl is a Muslim and her ‘idda has also ended, her marriage to a Muslim man is permissible without any difficulty.
