Marrying one’s female student

Question

Hamid wishes to take his female student in marriage. Hamid is married and has one or two children, but his first wife is giving permission, and Hamid is also able to maintain both of them. Kindly write in detail and clearly, according to the principles of the Shari‘a.

Answer

If there is a need and one has the ability to fulfil the rights according to the Shari‘a, then it is permissible to keep even four women in nikah at one time, according to the words of the Exalted: [ar]فَٱنكِحُوا۟ مَا طَابَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلنِّسَآءِ مَثْنَىٰ وَثُلَـٰثَ وَرُبَـٰعَ[/ar] “…then marry such women as please you, two, three, or four” (Surah al-Nisa’, 4:3).
