Women Going to the Mosque for the Eid Prayer

Question

Nowadays women pray the Eid prayer in the mosque, but this year some scholars, declaring this a bid'a (innovation in religion), took the women to the Eidgah (open ground for the Eid prayer): the rear part of the Eidgah was closed off on all four sides, and inside it the women (a few women) prayed. Some religious scholars and some other scholars issued a fatwa that women praying in the mosque is a bid'a.

Answer

The Eid prayer is not upon women (Maraqi al-Falah); therefore they should go neither to the mosque nor to the Eidgah to pray the Eid prayers. Even for the five daily prayers they are not permitted to go to the mosque. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said in a noble hadith that a woman's prayer in her own house is better than prayer in my mosque (the Prophet's Mosque).
