Women going to the Eidgah
Question
Regarding the Eid prayer, the Prophet ﷺ said: “Bring the children and the women along with you,” and he gave emphasis to it. Yet I have never heard this being discussed among you elders. What is the reason that the scholars of Gangoh and its surroundings have not emphasised it? Is it because of our local custom of seclusion? Can the practice of religion then be left incomplete because of your society and custom?
Answer
In the beginning women were permitted to go to the mosque and the Eidgah; indeed, to the Eidgah they were permitted even in the state of menstruation, even though they would not join the prayer. Then after that [the Prophet ﷺ] gave a second directive, namely that a woman’s praying in her own house is better than praying behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the Prophet’s Mosque.
