Ihtiyat al-Zuhr (Precautionary Zuhr) after the Jumu'a
Question
What is the ruling on performing, on Friday after the obligatory prayer has been performed, four rak'as with the intention of ihtiyat al-zuhr (precautionary Zuhr) in Calcutta, or in the outskirts of Calcutta, or in some village located at a distance of 20 miles from the city of Calcutta where, moreover, the necessities of life are available in abundance — what is the ruling on performing the said prayer in such places?
Answer
The whole umma is unanimous (ijma') that the Jumu'a is not like the other five prayers, such that it may be performed however and wherever one wishes; rather, it has certain particularities — [in the conditions of] its obligation and its validity — which the other prayers do not have. Then there is disagreement concerning these particularities.
