Some practices before the Friday prayer and handshaking after Jumu‘ah
Question
In our area there are followers of the Shafi‘i school. On Fridays before the khutbah they recite the following supplication. First the verse: “Indeed Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who believe, send blessings upon him and greet him with a complete greeting.” Then the mu’adhdhin stands and says: “O assembly of Muslims, may Allah have mercy on you.
Answer
Reciting these supplications related to the Friday khutbah is not established from hadith or fiqh. Those who claim it is established must provide evidence. In the Hanafi book Radd al-Muhtar it is written that assigning a fixed time for handshaking after prayer is a prohibited innovation and a practice of the Rawafid, therefore it must be abandoned.
