Trimming nails and hair before or after the Friday prayer

Question

Citing “al-Durr al-Mukhtar”, the ruling has been stated that on Friday having a haircut and having the nails trimmed after Jumu’a is more virtuous (afdal). Has this ruling been stated correctly?

Answer

When the nails have grown very long, trimming them after Jumu’a is written to be more virtuous (afdal) in “Sharh al-Ashbah” (p. 563). In “al-Durr al-Mukhtar” (p. 623) it is written unconditionally that having a haircut and having the nails trimmed after Jumu’a is more virtuous.
