The funeral prayer takes precedence over the sunnas

Question

If a funeral prayer is to be performed after the Friday prayer, should one first perform the sunnas of zuhr or the funeral prayer? It is necessary to give a reference from a book on this issue.

Answer

Let them first perform the funeral prayer, and perform the sunnas afterwards: [ar]وتقدم صلاة الجنازة على الخطبة وعلى سنة المغرب وغيرها كسنة الظهر والجمعة والعشاء.[/ar] “The funeral prayer is given precedence over the sermon, over the sunna of maghrib and others, such as the sunna of zuhr, of Jumu‘a and of ‘isha’” (“al-Durr al-Mukhtar” and “Shami”, vol. 1, p. 580).
