Performing a Second Hajj by Making a False Entry in the Application
Question
The questioner had the honour of performing Hajj to the House of Allah in 1940. This year he again wishes to perform Hajj. I intend to apply for Hajj from Calcutta, where a cousin of mine lives for trade, but there is one difficulty: in the application form a question is printed: “Have you ever performed Hajj before?” If the answer is given in the affirmative, approval of the application becomes difficult — indeed, no hope of approval remains; and if we answer in the negative, that is a lie.
Answer
The question is not about one's whole life but about five years. You have not performed Hajj within five years, so writing a denial there will be correct and not a lie. Moreover, since you are going from Calcutta, you have never performed Hajj from there — this too is true. There is no need for a lie.
