How to act upon “We cast off and forsake whoever disobeys You”

Question

How can one act in the present age upon the words “nakhla‘u wa natruku man yafjuruk” (نخلع ونترك من يفجرك — “we cast off and forsake whoever disobeys You”)? Can there be any way other than monasticism (rahbaniyya)? Yet Islam does not permit monasticism either?

Answer

It will be acted upon by censuring wickedness (fujur) as far as one is able. For example, if a child is soiled with filth, the child is not abandoned because of it, nor does one soil oneself with filth because of it; rather, with skilful handling, while guarding oneself against his filth, one cleans him of the filth as well.
