A son-in-law and mother-in-law expelled by the community over an illicit relationship

Question

A long time ago Zayd was married to a girl who had not reached puberty. Zayd’s mother-in-law was a widow; there was no one in her family to look after her, so the widow too lived in Zayd’s company. Living together, Zayd entered into an illicit relationship with his mother-in-law; then it became known that Zayd’s mother-in-law was pregnant — this too came out. On this basis the members of Zayd’s biradari (a kinship or caste community)

Answer

It is by no means permissible for these two to live together and mix with one another. Merely saying with the tongue, “I will regard her as a mother, and she will regard me as a son,” is not sufficient. The nafs and Shaytan are attached to both of them; they will again incline and compel them to deceit, as they have been doing until now.
