Eating and drinking at the house of someone under a declared boycott

Question

Zayd wished that in his village a boycott be declared against those who commit major crimes, for example, those who abduct someone’s wife and those who conduct the nikah of a married woman without separation (mufaraqa). It so happened that an occasion arose because of which the whole population became ready to boycott, and the villagers announced a boycott of a man, ‘Abd al-Ahad, who had made a woman who was not his wife into his wife.

Answer

Taking measures to reform one’s village is certainly very good, but what is generally observed is that the measure of a boycott does not succeed, because there is no unity among the people: gradually people, one after another, start mixing with the one who has been boycotted, and it has no good effect on the offender; rather, the fire of hatred and discord (fasad)
