Sunna clothing and the hair of the head

Question

Question: What was the particular clothing of the Prophet of Islam ﷺ? Which clothing did he ﷺ like? He ﷺ made shaving (halq) and shortening (qasr) of the hair an example to follow (uswa) — what was his practice in having his hair cut? What kind of hair did he commend? If someone keeps his hair other than in his particular style, or uses clothing other than that which he ﷺ commended — for example a coat, trousers, a dhoti (unstitched waist-cloth), a shirt and the like — what is the ruling in the Shari‘a?

Answer

The wrap, waist-cloth, kurta (a long loose shirt) and ‘imama — this was generally the clothing, and he liked it. For coming out of ihram he preferred shaving (halq), and he also permitted shortening (qasr). In general, three states of his hair are mentioned in the narrations: jumma, limma, wafra — to the middle of the ears, to the earlobes, to the shoulders.
