A mid-shin kurta: emphasized sunna or not

Question

Question: Is a kurta (a long loose shirt) down to mid-shin an emphasized sunna or a non-emphasized one? If someone abandons it, will he be sinful or not?

Answer

Emphasized and non-emphasized are categories of the sunan al-huda (sunnas of guidance). The length and form of the kurta and the like belong to the sunan al-zawa’id (supplementary sunnas), in which this division does not exist. The ruling on such sunnas is that one who adopts them with the intention of following (ittiba‘)
