The Mawlid: References from “al-Madkhal” and “Shami”
Question
It is submitted that, in reply to a fatwa concerning the mawlid, you write: “‘Allama Ibn Amir al-Hajj, in the book ‘al-Madkhal’, has set out the Shar‘i evils of this gathering in thirty-two pages; they should be studied attentively. The loud salawat recited by those present at a preaching gathering during the dhikr is declared prohibited in the books of fiqh, such as ‘al-Durr al-Mukhtar’, ‘Shami’, ‘Tahtawi’ and others.
Answer
There is no leisure at present to copy out thirty-two pages: my copy of “al-Madkhal” has been lent to someone. In “Wasaya al-Wazir ‘ala Tariqat al-Bashir wa-l-Nadhir”, “Barahin-i Qati‘a”, “Islah al-Rusum”, “al-Fatawa al-Hadithiyya” of Ibn Hajar al-Makki and other [books] there is ample discussion of this issue.
