‘Id Milad al-Nabi ﷺ

Question

Is it permissible on the twelfth of Rabi‘ al-Awwal to hold ‘Id Milad al-Nabi ﷺ (the festival of the Prophet’s ﷺ birth), to decorate a festive pavilion and to make illuminations, or not?

Answer

Doing something while regarding it as religion, reward and a means of nearness [to Allah] is correct only when it is established by the Shar‘i proofs. The Shar‘i proofs are four: (1) the Book, (2) the Sunna, (3) ijma‘ (consensus), (4) the qiyas of a mujtahid.
