The Descent of ‘Isa ﵇ Established by Tawatur
Question
Is the descent of ‘Isa ﵇ at the time of the Day of Judgement established by a Qur’anic verse? If it is established, by which verse? If it is not established, is there tawatur (mass transmission) or ijma‘ (consensus) on it or not? Is its denial a cause of kufr or not?
Answer
Most of the exegetes, referring the pronoun in the verse [ar]وَإِن مِّنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ إِلَّا لَيُؤْمِنَنَّ بِهِۦ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِۦ ۖ وَيَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ يَكُونُ عَلَيْهِمْ شَهِيدًا[/ar] “And there is none of the People of the Book but will surely believe in him before his death, and on the Day of Resurrection he will be a witness against them” (Surah al-Nisa’, 4:159)
