Equivocation (tawriya) about a spiritual illness in sick leave
Question
Some acquaintances extend their leave on account of their moral, social and spiritual ailments. Beyond the leave allowed by the regulations — for example, they had a month’s leave extended under the name of illness by writing a telegram or a letter. It was extended; they spent it in treating their spiritual illness and came back. Having returned there, they resumed their employment. They were also paid the salary for this sick leave. So what is the ruling on taking this salary?
Answer
The one afflicted himself knows which illness is more harmful and more dangerous, such that leave is needed for it. In the case asked about, the tawriya is permissible, and this salary is also permissible. There will be no difference in this between a Muslim and a non-Muslim state.
