Long-Vacation Salary for a Temporary Teacher
Question
Those in charge of Madrasa Mazhar al-‘Ulum, Shimoga, engaged Nazir Ahmad as a temporary teacher from the month of Dhu al-Hijja (13)95 AH until the end of the academic year, Sha‘ban. Now, is the said person entitled under the Shari‘a to the salary for the days of the long vacation, from the fifteenth of Sha‘ban to the fifteenth of Shawwal — a full two months — or not? While every teacher is being given his full salary as usual.
Answer
Since the temporary employment itself was only until Sha‘ban, there is no entitlement to the salary for the long vacation; he should not be equated by analogy (qiyas) with the permanent teachers.
