Renting Out the Premises of an Endowed Madrasa for Wedding Parties
Question
Before 1947 the population of our village, Kheri, consisted of about six hundred Muslim households. During that time a small madrasa was established here; when the students could no longer fit in it, a very large madrasa was established. But such is the will of the Almighty: because of the disturbances, all the Muslims left. Only fifty or sixty Muslim households remained.
Answer
Some rent should be taken from the people who lodge wedding guests in the small, old madrasa that is lying empty, and that rent money should be spent on the new madrasa, which is large and functioning. Spending fitra and the price of the hides of sacrificial animals on building a travellers’ lodge and the like is not permissible.
