Changing the Purpose of Expenditure
Question
Zayd gave a pair of oxen to a madrasa, and the madrasa sold them. Now Zayd says that the price of the oxen should be spent on building a mosque instead of on the madrasa. Is what Zayd says correct in the Shari‘a?
Answer
Since he did not give those oxen to the mosque but to the madrasa, and the madrasa sold them, Zayd’s saying now that the price should be spent on the mosque is out of place and is not to be followed. That price should be spent on the madrasa itself.
