Housing an Employee’s Children in a Madrasa Room

Question

The children and wife of the respected imam live in a room of the madrasa. Some people, calling this haram, are misleading the common folk. Is keeping one’s wife in an Islamic madrasa haram or halal? What is the standing, in the Shari‘a, of those who call it haram?

Answer

If a person is an imam or any teacher, and the terms of his employment with the madrasa also include housing, then it is permissible in the Shari‘a for him to keep his children and wife in the madrasa’s house. Whoever calls it impermissible is wrong. Observing hijab is necessary in any case.
