Using Foul-Smelling Paint in Whitewashing the Mosque

Question

What about using, for whitewashing and painting the mosque, paints in which spirit and kerosene are used — although the whitewashing can be done without mixing in these substances, but since adornment is intended, they are mixed in? In view of the ruling that the Prophet ﷺ forbade going to the mosque after eating onion so that the angels are not caused harm — do the angels not suffer from this? The matter to be clarified is: is using it permissible or not?

Answer

Bringing something foul-smelling into the mosque is makruh; such paint too should be avoided.
