A Leper Going to the Mosque
Question
Zayd suffers from leprosy. He appears healthy, but he is under treatment; two fingers of his left hand have become crooked. Expert doctors say: “At present there is no defect in your blood.” In this condition may Zayd go to the mosque and pray or not? Some people say that this disease is contagious, so Zayd should not come to the mosque.
Answer
If the effect of the leprosy is not in the blood, no fluid comes out of the body, and there is no foul smell, then it is permissible for him to go to the mosque, pray and take part in the congregation (jama‘a). Merely because two fingers have become crooked, this person should not be deprived of the mosque congregation.
