Passing Wind in the Mosque and I‘tikaf
Question
A person has an illness of passing wind, but he does not fall under the ruling of a ma‘dhur (a person with an excusing condition). For several years he has longed to perform i‘tikaf. What way could there be for such a person to perform i‘tikaf in the mosque?
Answer
The jurists have written that passing wind in the mosque is prohibited. In such a situation this person would have to leave the mosque again and again, or commit what is makruh frequently. Therefore the most cautious course is that such a person not perform i‘tikaf, but keep supplicating to Allah the Pure; and he will receive the reward for his wish and longing.
