Burning Kerosene in the Mosque

Question

If in some area kerosene has long been burned in the mosques and it is also difficult to stop it all at once, what is the ruling on burning kerosene given this constraint? Does kerosene cause any defect in the prayer or not? If there is sin in burning kerosene, then upon whom in that settlement will the sin be? If the imam is unhappy with the burning of kerosene, but the people of the settlement do not accept despite being admonished, will that imam be sinful or not?

Answer

Burning foul-smelling oil — kerosene — in the mosque is makruh tahrimi; it harms the angels as well. If no other arrangement for light can be made, then the kerosene should be burned in such a way that it is not inside the mosque but outside, while the light still comes into the mosque.
