Using the Mosque’s Toilet
Question
(1) Near Umar’s mosque there are shops belonging to Shia Rafidi people. They come to the mosque to relieve themselves (urinate and defecate), and also perform wudu from the mosque’s ablution tank, and they pray in this mosque. Is there any harm in their coming to the mosque? Should they be prevented from coming to the mosque or not? (2) Many people who do not pray also come to the mosque’s toilet to relieve themselves. The mosque’s congregants say: “Put a lock on the toilet.
Answer
(1) The mosque is originally (asalatan) for the prayer, so that for the sake of the prayer, purification, wudu and the like are also permitted there. But not to pray and yet use the mosque’s toilet and ablution tank is a matter of great shamelessness. They should be stopped from this, if one has the power to do so. (2)
